Academic from University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany Scoops Logistics Prize Worth 10,000 Euros - 13.05.2011
The DB Schenker Award 2010 has been awarded to Dr. Stefan Walther from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Worth 10,000 euros, the logistics prize is aimed at junior researchers and is open to entrants from across the globe. Dr. Walther accepted his award yesterday as part of the 'transport logistic' specialist trade fair in Munich for his dissertation "Industrializing Transportation Networks: An Analysis and Evaluation of Alternative Approaches to Cargo Transport Services with Special Reference to the European Over-the-Road Truckload Carrier Industry". "Dr. Walther's paper investigates one of the largest and most important economic sectors in Europe for the economy - the truckload carrier industry. With his paper, Dr. Walther has focused on an area into which little research has been carried out to date. He has developed highly practical approaches for enabling this industry to operate more efficiently and thus more sustainably in future. As the leading land transport company in Europe, his work is also of great interest to DB Schenker," explains Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, responsible for Transportation and Logistics in the Board of Management of DB Mobility Logistics AG. The Chair of Business Administration (Logistics) of Prof. em. Peter Klaus at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg was awarded 5,000 euros for the support and supervision of Dr. Walther's paper. The DB Schenker Award is awarded by the Stinnes Foundation and is one of the highest European accolades in the field of logistics. The Stinnes Foundation, based at DB Mobility Logistics AG, is a not-for-profit foundation and was established in 1983 as part of the celebrations surrounding the 175th anniversary of Stinnes AG. Awards have been presented to young scientists annually since as early as 1978. The purpose of the award is to support not-for-profit scientific activities, especially academic works from young scientists in the fields of transport, logistics and transportation systems.
