Finnish Coast Guard chooses Scania engines again - 29.04.2011 HT Shipping

Scania has received an order for 20 engines from the Finnish Coast Guard for new patrol boats. Each of the ten boats, Watercat 1300 Patrol, will be powered by two Scania 12-litre engines with an output of 700 hp each.

This order follows up on the cooperation that started in 2008. Today 14 Finnish patrol boats are powered by Scania engines.

- We see the continued confidence as proof of the engines’ high performance and reliability also in extremely tough marine environments, says Mikael Lindner, Sales Director Marine Engines at Scania.

The patrol boats will have a maximum speed of over 40 knots thanks to the combination of two 12-litre engines and waterjet propulsion. The concept is an ideal solution for coast guard, border guard, sea rescue and other similar tasks, Mikael Lindner states.

Deliveries will start in April to boat builder Marine Alutech Oy AB in Finland. The deal is made in cooperation with Scania’s Finnish distributor Oy Scan-Auto AB in Helsinki.
