Colombo Dockyard delivers Greatship Rashi - 25.03.2011
Earlier this month, Colombo Dockyard delivered another Platform/ROV Support Vessel, Greatship Rashi, to Greatship (India) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd. This was the fourth in the series and will join her sister vessel Greatship Rohini, which was delivered in February, according to Exim News Service. Greatship Rashi is a state-of-art, 78 m Platform/ROV Support Vessel, the 218th new ship that Colombo Dockyard has built and the 12th large and highly complex vessel that has been built and delivered by the yard since it internationalised its shipbuilding activities in 2006. Greatship Rashi is a Class II DP vessel and has been constructed complying with the new SPS Code 2008 and Environmental Protection and Crew Comfort notations of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. Capable of supporting offshore exploration and production activities, it has been specially fitted out for supporting 2 Work Class ROVs, a 35-tonne deep-sea winch and A frame, and 10 UT offshore crane. The yard recently secured orders for three more Platform/ROV Support Vessels from Greatship Global Offshore Services Pte Ltd in Singapore, with delivery times extending up to end-September 2012. Colombo Dockyard is one of Sri Lanka’s largest foreign exchange earners, contributing nearly 2 per cent to the country's total export revenue, whilst providing employment to over 3,000 Sri Lankans. Having committed to the development, sustenance of skills, competencies and technical knowhow of hundreds of local engineers and craftsmen, the company is today able to meet the emerging needs of the modern shipbuilding and ship repair industry, while adhering to the stringent requirements of classification societies, owners and flag authorities.
