Turkey plans bridge project - 16.05.2011
Turkey is planning to connect a high-speed train service between the capital city Ankara and Istanbul via a bridge across the Bosphorus and Marmaray rail system, as part of the rail project. Ankara-Istanbul high-speed train is expected to travel at a speed of 350km/h, running through the north of Lake Sapanca and reaching the Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul. The train line will be divided into two lines in Sultanbeyli; one line will be connected to the third bridge that will be constructed on the Istanbul Strait, and the other will be linked to Marmaray. Turkey is planning to hold tenders for the project in order to complete the projects within two months of the start of construction in September. The bridge will be part of the high-speed train project involving construction of a new 533km double track and electrified and signalled high-speed line, which will be independent of the existing line between Ankara and Istanbul, according to worldbulletin.net.
