Ansaldo STS has won a A$3.1 million turnkey signalling contract for a new 85km rail spur for Karara Mining Limited.
When completed the new branch line from the Karara mine site to Tilley Junction will be incorporated into WestNet Rail’s existing mainline system, providing Karara Mining with direct access from its mine to the Port of Geraldton.
Under the agreement Ansaldo STS is to supply a turnkey signalling system, including design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning for the new 85km line, along with flashinglight-only protected level crossings.
The contract forms part of the world class Karara Iron Ore project located 225 km east of Geraldton and being developed by joint venture partners Gindalbie Metals Ltd, Western Australia and Chinese steel producer AnSteel.
