Global Ports terminals turnover exceeds the pre-crisis level - 12.04.2011
Container turnover of Global Ports, a group of leading operators of container terminals in the North West and Far East of Russia, in January-March 2011 grew by 68% as compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to 341,222 TEUs. This result is 22% above the pre-crisis level – in January-March 2008 the Global Ports' terminals handled 279,091 TEUs. Despite the cold winter and complicated ice conditions in the first quarter of 2011, the freight turnover of the dedicated container terminal OJSC Petrolesport increased by 98% as compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to 179,085 TEUs. The volume of Ro-Ro cargo handled increased to 18,883 units of wheel-mounted vehicles (including cars), which is more than three times higher than in the first three months of 2010, when the ferry terminal of Petrolesport handled 5,488 units. By March 2010 the container turnover of Petrolesport increased by 55%, while the Ro-Ro cargo growth was 119%. LLC Moby Dik operating in Kronshtadt handled 44,975 TEUs. As compared to January-March 2010, the container handling volume increased by 59%. Growth of results this March (+64%) was first of all due to expansion of the terminal's customer base: new customers – Maersk Line and Unifeeder – launched regular service to Moby Dik. Container turnover of Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company operating in the Vostochny Port increased by 70% to reach 78,320 TEUs. In early February 2011 a new regular international line of SASCO opened service to the terminal, and in late March the terminal, together with LLC T-Trans and LLC Kamchatka Lines, opened a coastal service to ship cargo from the Moscow Region to Sakhalin and Kamchatka. Finnish terminals of Global Ports, Multi-Link Terminals Oy, located in Helsinki and Kotka, handled 38,842 TEUs (+ 0.1%). АО Vopak E.O.S., the biggest terminal by cargo turnover handling petroleum products in the Baltic region, in January-March handled 4.47 mln t of oil and petroleum products, which is 9% higher than the last year results (4.10 mln t).
